Mary Axworthy, is an urban planner with over 35 years’ experience in planning and public participation at the municipal level. She retired from the position of Director of Land Use Planning & Policy, City of Calgary in 2012. Her experience includes all aspects of land use policy and implementation planning. She played a key leadership role in “Plan It Calgary”, a blueprint for smart, sustainable growth that shaped Calgary’s award winning Municipal Development and Transportation Plans (2010).
Mary has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Design (Urbanism) from the University of Calgary, where she is now an Adjunct Professor.
She is also a member of the Alberta Municipal Government Board, a quasi-judicial board that hears appeals on commercial and industrial tax assessments and planning issues of provincial interest.
Mary is an instructor of the Real Estate Development and the Planning Process course at the University of Calgary.
